About the TROY Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program

A BSN Program with an Emphasis on Real-World Practice

Clinical skills are critical for every nurse. At TROY, you can practice what you've learned in every course, even outside of your labs and clinical rotations. From in-class demonstrations to simulations of real-world experiences, TROY's BSN program provides you with numerous ways to master your skills before you graduate. You'll also take several practicum courses, including child health nursing, mental health and psychiatric nursing, adult health nursing and public health nursing.

Applying to the TROY BSN Program

To be considered for the professional BSN nursing sequence, you must submit:
  1. A completed online BSN application
  2. Complete transcripts from all schools attended
  3. A $20 application fee

To be considered for the program, transfer students must submit a written request for an academic evaluation to the Academic Evaluation Center, a division of the University Records Office. Requests must include a copy of your transcripts and be received at least three weeks before the admissions deadline. Unofficial transcripts are accepted.

Jumpstart Your Nursing Career with a Nursing Student Apprenticeship

You'll benefit from the collaboration between the TROY School of Nursing, the Alabama Office of Apprenticeship and the Alabama Board of Nursing, which gives you access to a one-of-a-kind nursing apprenticeship that allows you to earn money while you're in school.

Launched in 2023 to break down barriers to nursing careers and help fill the nationwide nurse shortage, the has already placed Bachelor of Science in Nursing students in two-year apprenticeships at Flowers Hospital in Dothan and the Baptist Health system.

As a nursing major, you'll have the opportunity to apply and interview for the apprenticeship program, which replaces some clinical rotations. Through it, you'll learn from experienced nursing professionals and gain experience in clinical practice and real-world scenarios.

Nursing jobs for graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing span far and wide. Whether you want to work in obstetrics, pediatrics, psychiatry, oncology, surgery, geriatrics, recovery room, critical care or other settings, the BSN degree qualifies you to care for a range of patients. You'll also be prepared to take on higher-level roles than allowed with an associate nursing degree.

Dr. Nikki Hilburn

Dr. Nikki Hilburn

Dr. Nikki Hilburn is an Assistant Professor in the TROY School of Nursing. Her clinical focuses include family medicine, nursing education, and critical and emergency care. She has been published several times and received numerous awards from the National Institute of Health. Her research interests include teaching and learning, critical care/trauma, cardiology, management of cardiology disorders/diseases, acute care and family medicine.

The Preparation You Need to Pass Your NCLEX-RN Exam

Earn your nursing degree from a school with an of over 95%. With a rigorous, comprehensive curriculum and experienced, devoted faculty, TROY's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program provides the exceptional preparation you need to gain licensure as a registered nurse after you graduate.

Your courses will expose you to — and train you for — a broad range of nursing fields, from community health to surgery. You'll also learn to perform well in complex situations that require self-direction, such as intensive, critical or psychiatric care.

Early Acceptance Requirements for BSN

The BSN Early Acceptance Program application is available online for high school seniors and May TROY first-year students. Below is more information about the Early Acceptance Program, but if you have questions, please contact the School of Nursing at 334-670-3428.Students must meet the BSN program requirements to enter and remain in the program.
Requirements for high school seniors - Apply November 1 - December 15
Early Acceptance Requirements:
  1. A minimum high school GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
  2. An ACT score of 25 composite or SAT of 1200
  3. Completion of: a. One year of Biology b. One year of Chemistry or Physics c. Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry
  4. Must place in MTH 1112 and ENG 1101
  5. Apply for admission to Â鶹ÍøÕ¾Áбí
  6. Apply for admission to the Early Acceptance Program

Maintaining your Early Acceptance Program Status:
You must maintain the following requirements while completing general education coursework.
  1. Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2 and a minimum grade of a C on all coursework
  2. Be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester, excluding summer
  3. Complete all academic courses in a maximum of five semesters
  4. Complete all academic courses at Â鶹ÍøÕ¾Áбí (recommended)
  5. The semester before the completion of academic prerequisites, complete the Early Acceptance Program documents
Requirements for TROY freshman - Apply May 1 - June 15
Early Acceptance Requirements:
  1. Successful completion of the first year of pre-nursing prerequisite courses
  2. Overall GPA of 3.2 or above.

Students are guaranteed admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing clinical sequence (junior and senior year) when the following requirements are met:

  1. Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2 and a minimum grade of a C on all coursework
  2. Apply for admission to the early acceptance BSN Program
  3. Have completed their first year of college, including the following courses: MTH 1112 and CHM 1142/CHM L142
  4. Must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester, excluding Summer
  5. Students are encouraged to complete all academic prerequisites at Â鶹ÍøÕ¾Áбí
  6. The semester before the completion of academic prerequisites, complete the Early Acceptance Program documents

A BSN degree, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing, provides intensive preparation for future nurses, including licensure. How many years is nursing school?
The time to degree in nursing school varies depending on the program. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing takes approximately 4.5 years to complete. A master's degree in nursing can take two to three years and a Doctor of Nursing Practice takes three to five years.
What is the NCLEX exam?
The NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) comes in two different types: The NCLEX-RN is the test for registered nursing candidates, while the NCLEX-PN is for those aspiring to become practical nurses (also known as licensed practical nurses or licensed vocational nurses). You will need to pass the NCLEX for nursing jobs.
